We Are Resilient, University of Toronto Mississauga – January 9 to February 20 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Mississauga is known for its thriving arts and culture scene, from musicals and interactive exhibits to public art and live performances. Engaging with the city’s arts, culture and heritage scene is a great way to get to know your community, support artists and learn about the world around you.

There are a number of exciting performances, exhibits and shows happening this month and beyond – so be sure to take a moment and check them out!

Africville Stories
Living Arts Centre – February 3 at 8 p.m.
Performed by award-winning Canadian singer-storyteller Jackie Richardson, composer and pianist Joe Sealy and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, experience poignant and uplifting stories about the Africville people and their community. Buy tickets

A Night of Jazz
Living Arts Centre – February 10 at 8 p.m.
Join us for a unique and timeless evening featuring co-headliners, and Mississauga musicians, Shannon Butcher and Cat Bernardi. A cabaret-style event with pre-show tableside cocktails and snacks. Buy tickets.

MSO – The Barber of Seville (Opera)
Living Arts Centre – February 11 at 8 p.m.
Celebrate Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, an opera in concert, performed by the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. Buy tickets.

Cirque Kalabante – Afrique en Cirque
Living Arts Centre – February 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Symbolizing the strength, agility and joy of life found in African youth, enjoy daring acrobats, accompanied by their musicians, as they perform to the rhythm of the djembes of Guinea. Buy tickets

The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Meadowvale Theatre – March 3 to 12 at 8 p.m.
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a captivating masterpiece the whole family will enjoy. Showcasing the songs and characters you love along with new songs by Menken and Schwartz, this is a show you won’t want to miss. Buy tickets.

Explore an Exhibit

The Ones We Met: Inuit Traditional Knowledge and the Franklin Expedition
Bradley Museum – January 19 to April 16 from Noon to 4 p.m.
This travelling, interactive exhibit shares the stories of Inuit in Northern Canada. Developed by the Canadian Museum of History in collaboration with the Inuit Heritage Trust, this exhibit features an audio-visual station and an animated map. The experience allows you to explore the historic Franklin Expedition through the lens of Inuit traditional knowledge.

We Are Resilient
University of Toronto Mississauga – January 9 to February 20 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Inspired by the City of Mississauga’s Climate Change Action Plan, view compelling photographs and stories created by Mississauga residents and perspectives from international scientific leaders. Learn how you can take climate action. This exhibition is travelling throughout Mississauga and the Peel region.

 

Unearth Uncover
Small Arms Inspection Building –February 7 to 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Inspired by plaques that commemorate significant people, places and events in Black Canadian History, experience thoughtful and striking visual art. This exhibit was created by Cawthra Park Secondary School students in response to Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives’ Unearth Uncover Historical Plaque Project.
