TORONTO — In a major announcement for Canadian EV buyers, Kia Canada has confirmed that the all-new EV5 electric SUV will be exclusive to Canada in the North American market and is scheduled to arrive in Spring 2026.
As part of Kia’s strategy to expand electric vehicle adoption across the country, the EV5 enters Canada’s most competitive segment—compact SUVs—bringing together bold styling, spacious design, and EV affordability in one package. The vehicle will be produced in South Korea at Kia’s state-of-the-art Autoland Gwangju plant and shipped exclusively to Canadian dealerships.
“The EV5 is expected to break the affordability barrier in Canada’s growing EV space while offering signature design and SUV performance,” said Kia in a company release.
EV Innovation Meets Canadian Needs
Built on Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, the EV5 carries cues from its larger sibling, the EV9. Key features include:
-
Two battery options: 60.3 kWh (standard) and 81.4 kWh (long range)
-
Front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations
-
Flat-folding second-row seats for generous cargo space
-
North American Charging Standard (NACS) compatibility
-
Striking design with Kia’s 3D star map lighting and “tiger face” grille
The SUV will be offered in eight exterior colours, including two new options: Magma Red and Frost Blue.
Interior Tech & Comfort
Inside, the EV5 delivers a luxury-inspired cabin with:
-
Nearly 30 inches of panoramic screen
-
Eco-conscious materials and ambient mood lighting
-
Thoughtful storage, including a front trunk (“frunk”)
-
Spacious five-passenger seating
These features aim to create a premium experience that supports Kia’s sustainability mission while offering comfort for daily drives and weekend adventures.
Made for Canada, Not the U.S.
The EV5 is unique in being exclusive to the Canadian market within North America—a bold move that signals Kia’s strong confidence in the country’s EV future. Pricing, trim details, and estimated range are expected to be released closer to launch.
