MISSISSAUGA, ON — Students and residents in Malton have a new place to play, train, and thrive. On June 9, 2025, the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and the City of Mississauga officially opened the Lincoln M. Alexander Sports Complex—a modern, multi-use outdoor athletic facility located on the grounds of Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School.
The state-of-the-art complex includes:
-
A premier artificial turf field for football, soccer, field hockey, field lacrosse, and rugby
-
A synthetic four-lane track for year-round use
-
Multipurpose courts for basketball and ball hockey
During the school day, the facility will serve Lincoln M. Alexander S.S. students for both curricular and extracurricular programs. Outside school hours, it becomes a community hub, available to the public through the City of Mississauga’s permit system—making it a versatile venue for athletes of all ages and backgrounds.
“This isn’t just about a new facility—it’s about giving our youth a space where they can stay active and build connections,” said Ward 5 Councillor Natalie Hart, whose area includes Malton. “Together, we’re investing in the future of Malton.”
🏃🏽♀️ A Space to Inspire and Unite
The Lincoln M. Alexander Sports Complex is more than a field and courts—it’s a symbol of what collaborative investment can achieve. The project was jointly funded by the Peel District School Board, the City of Mississauga, and the Government of Ontario, which contributed up to $1.36 million to support development.
“The incredible, state-of-the-art sports complex… exemplifies the power of collaboration and community spirit,” said MPP Deepak Anand (Mississauga—Malton). “This gives the deserving youth of underserved Malton a launchpad to pursue their dreams in sports and beyond.”
“This project is proof that great things can happen when we work together,” added Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish.
From synthetic turf to all-weather courts, the facility is built with inclusion and excellence in mind. PDSB’s Director of Education Rashmi Swarup emphasized the complex’s potential to create opportunities for students and promote healthy lifestyles:
“Sport is a global language… It is our hope that this new sports complex will encourage students to not only pursue their personal goals but to also try something new.”
🤝 A Model for Community Investment
The new facility aligns with PDSB’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan (2024–2028), which emphasizes community engagement, wellness, and youth empowerment. Board Chair David Green highlighted the health and social value of shared spaces:
“It creates a focal point for the community… and brings people together.”
The PDSB and City of Mississauga both describe the project as a template for future partnerships, demonstrating how school boards and municipalities can work together to benefit students and neighbourhoods.
“This is a facility our community needs,” said Susan Benjamin, PDSB Trustee for Ward 5. “It represents our shared commitment to creating spaces where people of all ages can gather, stay active, and support their well-being.”
