
Ottawa, Ontario – Mark Carney has officially taken office as Canada’s new Prime Minister after being sworn in today at Rideau Hall. The ceremony, presided over by Governor General Mary Simon, also saw the installation of the 30th Canadian Ministry, which Carney described as a “leaner, focused” Cabinet.
The newly appointed ministers include a mix of returning figures, experienced leaders, and fresh voices, with the goal of addressing key national priorities such as economic growth, national security, and Canada’s global trade position.
Carney’s Cabinet appointments emphasize economic strength, innovation, and governance efficiency. Notable positions include Dominic LeBlanc as Minister of International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mélanie Joly as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and François-Philippe Champagne taking on the role of Minister of Finance. Other key appointments include Anita Anand as Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Bill Blair as Minister of National Defence, and Patty Hajdu as Minister of Indigenous Services.

Chrystia Freeland, previously serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, has taken on the role of Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, signaling a shift in government focus towards bolstering domestic and international trade corridors. Meanwhile, Jonathan Wilkinson remains Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, underscoring the government’s commitment to making Canada an energy superpower in both conventional and clean energy sectors.
Carney’s government has also prioritized housing, infrastructure, and public safety. Nate Erskine-Smith was named Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, while David J. McGuinty was appointed Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. In addition, Rachel Bendayan was named Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, reinforcing a commitment to Canada’s ongoing immigration policies.
The Prime Minister emphasized that his administration is committed to “protecting Canadian workers, supporting their families, and growing this great country.” The government has also outlined objectives to defend Canada’s sovereignty in trade disputes with the United States, create new trade corridors with reliable partners, and build a stronger national economy.
Carney’s swearing-in marks a significant transition in Canada’s leadership, with his government pledging to act swiftly in delivering results for Canadians.
