TORONTO, March 20, 2018 /CNW/ – The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, will welcome the federal and provincial tourism delegation from the People’s Republic of China for the 2018 Canada-China Year of Tourism (CCYT) opening ceremony.

Prior to the official ceremony, Minister Chagger will be available for one-on-one interviews to highlight the benefits of CCYT for both countries and talk about continuing efforts to further deepen people-to-people ties.

CCYT is an important milestone in the CanadaChina relationship. More than 1.8 million Canadians have Chinese heritage, and last year Canada set a new record for the number of Chinese tourists welcomed in one year—more than 680,000.

CCYT represents an excellent growth opportunity for Canada’s tourism sector. Canada has set the goal of doubling the number of Chinese visitors by 2021.

The opening ceremony is being hosted by the People’s Republic of China.
