Melissa Auf der Maur Memoir Launch Toronto Event Returns for Sold-Out Encore at The Garrison

TORONTO — Following a sold-out launch at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Canadian alternative rock icon Melissa Auf der Maur is returning to Toronto for an encore memoir event on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at The Garrison (1197 Dundas St. W.).

The afternoon conversation, titled “Nineties Tea Time,” is presented as part of the Wavelength Music Festival + Conference 2026, in collaboration with Sonic Boom and TO Live.

The event will spotlight Auf der Maur’s memoir, Even the Good Girls Will Cry: A ’90s Rock Memoir (Da Capo Press), described as part rock chronicle, part travel diary and part psychedelic scrapbook — a deeply personal account of her years performing with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins during the defining decade of alternative rock.

A Conversation Rooted in ’90s Rock History

At The Garrison, Auf der Maur will be in conversation with Toronto music journalist Emilie Hanskamp, creator of the influential music discovery platform @emilietheaux. The discussion is expected to explore the cultural landscape of the 1990s, her artistic evolution and reflections on the analog era of rock music.

The memoir captures behind-the-scenes moments from a formative period in alternative music, chronicling the intensity, experimentation and creative freedom that defined the era.

Auf der Maur, born and raised in Montreal with a fine arts education, rose to international prominence as bassist for Hole and later The Smashing Pumpkins. Beyond music, she is an accomplished photographer, curator and producer. In 2010, she co-founded Basilica Hudson, a multidisciplinary arts centre in Hudson, New York.

A Full Weekend at Wavelength

The encore memoir event marks the culmination of a full weekend of programming featuring Auf der Maur at the Wavelength Music Festival + Conference. Additional appearances include an xMAdMx darkwave DJ set and a curated performance evening co-presented with Basilica Hudson and Basilica SoundScape, the organization’s annual music and arts festival.

Founded in 2000, Wavelength Music is a Toronto-based non-profit arts platform supporting emerging and under-recognized artists. The organization presents concerts, festivals and music-focused discussions while contributing to broader conversations around city-building and cultural infrastructure in Toronto.
