Mississauga –Ā Pet owners in Mississauga are being reminded that licensing their cats and dogs is more than a by-law requirement – it’s a way to support city-wide animal care, rescue services, and education programs.

The City of Mississauga offers one- and two-year pet licence options that can be purchased online, by phone, by mail, or in person at the Animal Services Shelter. With just a few steps, pet owners can ensure their furry companions are legally registered and much easier to return home if lost.

In 2024, Mississauga Animal Services reunited 466 lost pets with their families, treated over 1,200 animals in their care, and responded to nearly 6,000 emergency calls for animals in distress.

ā€œLicensing your pet provides peace of mind,ā€ said a spokesperson from Mississauga Animal Services. ā€œIt also supports vital programs that keep animals safe and help reduce the number of strays in our community.ā€

The fees collected go toward:

  • Shelter care for homeless animals

  • Emergency rescue services, available 24/7

  • Veterinary treatment and vaccinations

  • Investigations into abuse or neglect

  • Education programs to promote responsible pet ownership

Affordable pricing makes it accessible for most residents. Spayed or neutered pets cost $25 for dogs and $10 for cats annually. Seniors (65+) receive a discount, and certified service or therapy animals are often exempt.

Tags are mailed within 10 business days for new applications. Renewals are processed in one business day without requiring a new tag.
