Mississauga's new school walking routes sign

Have you seen these signs in your neighbourhood? They’re part of the City’s School Walking Routes program and they may be getting a new look.

The City is inviting residents to share their feedback on these signs to see how they impact the way people travel to school and through school zones and how they might be improved. As an action within the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan, the purpose of the program is to encourage active travel to school, such as walking or biking, and improve safety in school zones and neighbourhoods.

Share your feedback
Mississauga students, parents and those who travel around school zones are encouraged to take the quick survey. Share your thoughts on the signs, including the impact the signs have on driver behaviour, and the possibility of adding information to the signs such as wayfinding, distance and travel times.

As the City explores the possibility of updating its School Walking Routes signs, feedback from the survey will help inform decisions.

Since the start of the program in 2008, School Walking Routes signs have been installed in neighbourhoods surrounding nearly 40 local schools. Families can go online to access custom maps for their school to plan a safe and active route to school.
