MISSISSAUGA — Mississauga’s older adult population has more than a few reasons to celebrate this June. In recognition of Seniors Month, the City is rolling out a robust lineup of programs, discounts, and activities designed to keep residents 65+ engaged, active, and connected—whether at home, in parks, or across the community.
The spotlight announcement? Starting July 1, seniors will be able to ride MiWay buses for free with a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type. This long-awaited transit perk comes as part of Mississauga’s broader commitment to becoming a more age-friendly city.
Programs for Every Lifestyle
From fitness and arts to tech and travel planning, the City’s Get Outside Guide is encouraging seniors to make the most of summer. The newly launched guide includes maps to bookable picnic areas, city trails, and outdoor amenities, while also promoting a calendar of free programs and low-cost experiences.
Meanwhile, those who prefer to stay in can still get active through the Sauga Connections for Older Adults, a series of free weekday virtual classes. With programs ranging from fitness to creative workshops, it’s an accessible option for seniors who want to stay engaged from the comfort of home.
65+ Fit Membership Off to a Strong Start
Mississauga is also celebrating the success of its new 65+ Fit membership, launched in April. With over 12,000 sign-ups in just two months, the program offers affordable access to City-run fitness classes and recreation facilities.
For a more leisurely pace, older adults can take advantage of a five per cent discount on green fees at Lakeview, BraeBen Championship, and BraeBen 9-hole Academy golf courses. Tee times can be booked online at mississauga.ca/golf.
Libraries and Lifelong Learning
Mississauga Library branches are marking Seniors Month with free workshops, art classes, and social events. Programs are open to all older adults looking to connect with peers, explore new hobbies, or simply enjoy a good book and conversation in a community space.
Supporting Healthy Aging
The City says its Seniors Month offerings are rooted in a broader mission: ensuring older adults remain leaders, volunteers, and fully active participants in Mississauga life. By collaborating with senior-serving organizations and government partners, Mississauga continues to build an inclusive, accessible, and safe community for its aging population.
