Mississauga Steelheads Defeat the Niagara Ice Dogs 4 – 3

The Mississauga Steelheads were on the road facing the Niagara Ice Dogs for their first regular season game of the 2022 – 2023 season. The game was held at the Meridian Center in Niagara Falls.

The Steelheads finished their regular season last year 2nd place in their division but got knocked out of the playoffs in the second round.

The Steelheads were first to get on the scoreboard with a goal in the 1st period by Zak Lavoie.

In the 2nd period Lavoie scored another goal putting Mississauga up 2 – 0.

It was great goaltending by the Steelheads goalie Alessio Beglieri shutting out the Ice Dogs for the first 2 periods of play but the Ice Dogs came back in the 3rd tying the game at 2 before J. Hardie scored giving the Steelheads the 3 – 2 lead.

A goal by P. Zito for the Ice Dogs at 8:08 seconds in the 3rd period tied the game again and ultimately forced the teams into an overtime period.

It was Z. Lavoie who scored his 3rd goal of the game giving him a hat trick, that won the game for the Steelheads in overtime.
