A Grand Slam Moment for Mississauga

With the 2025 National Bank Open returning to Toronto from July 26 to August 7, Mississauga is serving up new excitement for tennis—both on and off the court. Local energy is building around the game as the City continues to invest in public courts, recreational programs, and strategic partnerships.

From grassroots to grand slams, tennis is gaining momentum in one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.

Canadian Tennis Stars Spark National Passion

Tennis is having a Canadian moment. From Bianca Andreescu—Mississauga’s very own tennis champion—to global stars like Leylah Fernandez, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Milos Raonic, Denis Shapovalov, and Gabriel Diallo, homegrown talent continues to inspire the next generation.

Andreescu, who has a Key to the City and a street named after her (Andreescu Way), symbolizes the possibilities for young athletes coming out of Mississauga.

Mississauga’s Tennis Infrastructure Is Growing Fast

The City now boasts 162 tennis courts, broken down as:

  • 88 public outdoor courts (lit and unlit)

  • 74 private club courts

Recent upgrades include the Garnetwood Park courts, renovated through the Play Your Court partnership with Tennis Canada and National Bank. These new courts are part of a broader effort to expand access and improve facilities across neighbourhoods.

🔹 Future projects include four new multi-use public courts for tennis and pickleball.

Where to Play: Indoor and Outdoor Options

Mississauga offers year-round access through a variety of venues:

Outdoor Courts

  • Found throughout city parks and select community centres

  • Free to use and ideal for casual matches during warmer months

Indoor Courts & Domes

  • Privately operated at locations like Premier Racquet Clubs, Churchill Meadows Community Centre, and Mattamy Sports Park

  • Offer structured programs, league play, and weather-proof training

  • Membership or court fees apply

  • Mental Focus: Improves reflexes and reduces stress

  • Social Engagement: A fun way to meet new people and form friendships

  • Inclusive & Motivating: Great for all ages, skill levels, and mobility ranges

“All you need is a racquet, a few balls, and the will to rally,” said a coach from Tennis Everyone, one of the City’s key program partners.

Investing in Community Through Partnerships

Mississauga is expanding tennis through collaborations with:

  • Local clubs

  • Schools

  • Community organizations

These partnerships align with the City’s 2024 Recreation Plan and 2024 Parks, Forestry and Environment Plan, which aim to:

  • Grow indoor and outdoor court capacity

  • Improve existing facilities

  • Expand youth and adult programs

Residents can access programs including:

  • Beginner clinics

  • Competitive leagues

  • Accessible programming for all abilities

  • Seasonal tournaments and events
