Ontario Invests $12.5 Million in New Hospital for Brantford-Brant

Expanded Brant Community Healthcare System facility will enhance care and reduce wait times for thousands

Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones announces $12.5 million in new funding for a state-of-the-art hospital in Brantford, as part of the province’s plan to expand healthcare access across growing communities.

BRANTFORD — The Ontario government has announced an additional $12.5 million investment toward the planning and construction of a brand-new hospital in Brantford-Brant under the Brant Community Healthcare System. The state-of-the-art facility will serve residents of Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River, and surrounding communities, significantly increasing capacity and modernizing services to reduce wait times and improve patient care.

“By investing to build a brand-new Brant Community Healthcare System hospital, we are making it faster and easier for more people and their families to access world-class care in their community,” said Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones.

This new funding builds on an earlier $2.5 million provincial investment and will support the planning phase for a modern hospital designed to meet the region’s growing needs. The hospital is part of Ontario’s broader commitment to investing nearly $60 billion in health infrastructure over the next decade.

What the New Hospital Will Offer

Once completed, the new facility will provide:

  • Greater patient capacity to meet future demand

  • Expanded emergency and intensive care services

  • Advanced diagnostic imaging and surgical spaces

  • Maternal, newborn, and pediatric care programs

  • Mental health and addictions support, including a Mental Health Emergency Unit

  • Access to life-saving dialysis and cancer care

  • Stroke and rehabilitation care services

The new hospital will modernize care delivery in Brantford-Brant, ensuring patients no longer need to travel outside their region for critical services.

Supporting a Growing Region

The Brant Community Healthcare System currently operates 330 beds across two sites, serving over 120,000 residents including Indigenous communities like Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The new hospital will be a key pillar in Ontario’s long-term health care transformation strategy, “Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care.”

“Our government is committed to building strong, people-focused public services,” said Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy. “This $12.5 million investment is part of our $1.1 billion commitment in the 2025 Ontario Budget to ensure that all Ontarians can access care when and where they need it.”

In addition to the hospital expansion, the province has also allocated $16 million to upgrade essential infrastructure at the existing Brantford General Hospital, including critical repairs to the boiler system and utility tunnels.

What’s Next

With early planning now underway, the Ministry of Health will work closely with the Brant Community Healthcare System to finalize the hospital’s size, capacity, and timeline. A construction schedule will be confirmed once the tendering process is complete.
