OAKVILLE, Ont. — The Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) will take part in Mars Global Pet Adoption Weekend from October 3–5, 2025, offering a chance for families to bring home a pet while shining a spotlight on some of the shelter’s longest-waiting residents.

Thanks to the support of Mars Canada and the PEDIGREE Foundation, adoption fees will be fully sponsored for a select group of cats and dogs that have been overlooked for too long.

“This initiative shines a spotlight on some of our longest-waiting residents: pets who have been overlooked for too long and are ready to find their forever families,” said Katherine Wilson, Manager of Marketing and Communications at OMHS.

Pets Available for Fee-Waived Adoption

🐾 Cats: Coco, Mystique, Sirabi, Quinn, Christopher Robin, Kandy, Mia, Lillian
🐾 Dogs: Dudley, Frosty, Chance, Meatball, Lilah

While adoption fees will be waived, OMHS stresses that its regular application and screening process remains in place to ensure each pet is carefully matched with the right home. Same-day adoptions may be possible depending on suitability.

Visiting Hours During the Event

  • Friday, October 3: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

  • Saturday, October 4: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Sunday, October 5: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Applications will also be accepted by email throughout the weekend.

“Together with Mars and the PEDIGREE Foundation, we’re helping give these deserving pets the second chance they’ve been waiting for,” added Wilson.

Why It Matters

The initiative is part of Mars Global Pet Adoption Weekend, which highlights the wellbeing benefits of the human-animal bond and encourages adoption as a path to pet ownership. Research shows 83% of people worldwide say their pet has improved their mental wellbeing.
