Province seeks feedback from residents and businesses as it prepares next year’s fiscal plan
The Ontario government has officially launched provincewide consultations to help shape the 2026 Ontario Budget, inviting residents, workers, businesses, and community organizations to share their priorities for the year ahead.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy announced the initiative on Thursday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building a competitive, resilient, and self-reliant economy while continuing efforts to protect Ontario families during uncertain global economic conditions.

“As we prepare for the 2026 Budget, we want to hear directly from the people of Ontario about what matters most to them, from keeping costs down and taxes low, to creating good jobs and getting shovels in the ground on critical infrastructure,” Bethlenfalvy said in a statement. “Together, we will continue to navigate global challenges, safeguard our economy and ensure Ontario remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
Consultations to Shape the Next Phase of Ontario’s Economic Plan
According to the Ministry of Finance, this year’s consultation process is designed to build on the commitments outlined in the 2025 Fall Economic Statement, which focused on protecting households, expanding job growth, and strengthening Ontario’s supply chains.
To ensure a broad and accessible process, Ontarians can participate through several channels:
-
In-person consultation meetings across the province
-
Written submissions submitted by mail or online
-
Completion of an online survey via the government’s budget portal
The province says feedback gathered over the coming weeks will guide decisions on job creation, affordability measures, infrastructure investments, and long-term economic planning.
Balanced Approach and Fiscal Responsibility Emphasized
The government notes that its fiscal strategy remains centered on a “responsible and balanced approach,” ensuring investments in priority areas—including public services, workers, and business growth—while maintaining flexibility to respond to evolving global and economic pressures.
The consultations are open now, and all Ontarians are encouraged to participate. More details and submission options are available through the province’s official 2026 Budget Consultation Portal.
