VAUGHAN — The Ontario government is investing $10 million to help build a new 15-acre Family Recreation Area at North Maple Regional Park, a project designed to boost the local economy, protect jobs, and provide families with new opportunities to stay active year-round.
The funding is part of the $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), a provincewide initiative supporting municipalities and organizations in upgrading or building sport and recreation facilities.
“At a time when Ontario families are facing rising costs due to tariffs, our government is proud to support projects that deliver better services for people, while creating opportunities for kids, seniors and families to stay active in their communities,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “This investment in Vaughan’s North Maple Regional Park will protect Ontario jobs, strengthen the community and create a landmark destination that will boost the local economy.”
A Park for All Seasons
The new Family Recreation Area will include:
-
A four-season nature playground
-
Water play areas
-
A skate trail
-
Picnic pavilion
-
Recreational trail
-
New parking facilities
When complete, North Maple Regional Park will span more than 900 acres, transforming into a signature hub for recreation, sports, and cultural activities in Vaughan and across the region.
Mayor Steven Del Duca called the project a milestone in Vaughan’s long-term vision:
“The new area is a significant project in the City of Vaughan’s vision to transform the 900-acre park into a signature destination for sports, recreation and culture — and this funding from the Province of Ontario is helping to bring that vision to life. I want to thank the province for their continued support and investment in Vaughan.”
Local Impact and Community Support
The government says the investment will not only enhance community health and recreation but also support local jobs and stimulate economic growth by attracting visitors.
MPP Stephen Lecce (King–Vaughan) said the project will create a lasting legacy:
“Our government’s investment will improve this year-round park and build a dedicated space for families, including new splash pads, skate trails, boardwalk and a large family picnic pavilion, all set to open next year in the heart of Maple.”
CSRIF is part of Ontario’s broader $200 billion infrastructure plan, which also funds highways, hospitals, schools, and transit projects across the province.
