TORONTO — The Ontario government is investing $2.2 million to help launch The Corleck, a new Irish-Canadian arts and cultural venue set to rise on Toronto’s revitalizing waterfront. The funding, delivered through the 2025 Fall Economic Statement, supports the province’s plan to strengthen tourism, celebrate cultural heritage, and stimulate local job creation.

The investment reflects Ontario’s long-standing ties with the Irish community — a population of 4.6 million Canadians of Irish descent nationwide. Located at Ireland Park and the Bathurst Quay Common, The Corleck will serve as a major cultural anchor along the waterfront, offering arts programming, performance space, a gallery and museum, meeting rooms, a café, and a rooftop terrace.

Honouring a Deep Cultural Legacy

Premier Doug Ford said the new venue underscores Ontario’s commitment to recognizing its diverse communities.

“The 4.6 million Canadians of Irish descent have made lasting cultural and economic contributions to Ontario,” Ford said. “We’re thrilled to work alongside the Canada Ireland Foundation to bring The Corleck to life so millions of people can experience Irish-Canadian art, history and culture.”

Construction is already underway, with the venue expected to open to the public in spring 2026.

Tourism and Community Impact

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho highlighted the project’s economic benefits.

“The Corleck offers a beautiful new space where visitors can experience what makes Ontario vibrant — art, culture, history and connection,” said Cho. “Our investment protects cultural assets while strengthening tourism and supporting good local jobs.”

The Corleck will complement surrounding cultural and entertainment destinations including Ontario Place, the Ontario Science Centre, Harbourfront Centre, and Exhibition Place, helping expand Toronto’s waterfront arts ecosystem.

A Multi-Government Partnership

In addition to Ontario’s contribution, The Corleck has secured support from:

  • The Government of Canada

  • The City of Toronto

  • The Government of Ireland

  • Private donors

  • The Canada Ireland Foundation

Mark Purdy, Chair of the Canada Ireland Foundation, called the investment “pivotal,” noting its role in transforming the waterfront and boosting local tourism and employment opportunities.

About the Project

  • The Corleck repurposes the former Canada Malting Company administrative building, preserving its heritage while adapting it for modern cultural use.

  • The venue will act as a permanent hub for Irish-Canadian arts, cultural exchanges, and community events.

  • The broader tourism sector supports 300,000 jobs and contributes $33 billion to Ontario’s GDP.

Through its continued investment — including more than $200 million in tourism funding this year — the province aims to protect and grow a cornerstone industry that supports festivals, cultural organizations, regional tourism agencies, and major attractions.
