Premier Doug Ford reflects on sacrifices made by members of the Canadian Armed Forces

TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford marked Remembrance Day with a solemn statement honouring the courage, sacrifice and service of Canada’s veterans, emphasizing the importance of reflecting on the freedoms secured by generations of Canadian Armed Forces members.

In his message, Premier Ford urged Ontarians to pause and remember the more than 120,000 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in service to the country. He emphasized that Remembrance Day remains a vital moment for all Canadians to acknowledge the cost of defending democracy at home and abroad.

November 11 is a day when our nation comes together to express our collective appreciation for the courageous men and women in uniform who gave their all to defend the values and freedoms that make Canada the best country in the world,” Ford said.

This year’s commemoration carries special significance, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Ford noted that Canadian contributions to global peace and security continue to be recognized internationally, with Canada’s flag and its veterans welcomed around the world.

The Premier encouraged Ontarians to use today’s moment of silence to reflect on acts of bravery — both past and present — and to honour military families whose support makes service possible.

As we wear poppies and lay our wreaths, I encourage everyone to think of the individual acts of courage and selflessness that these powerful symbols represent,” Ford stated. “And to every veteran, service person and military family in our province — thank you.

The Premier concluded his statement with the enduring words recognized across generations: “Lest we forget.”
