Province Creating Jobs and Keeping People and Goods Moving Through the GTA.
Ontario is widening 18km of Highway 401 in Mississauga and Milton, to improve traffic flow and keep people and goods moving. Kathryn McGarry, Minister of Transportation and Indira Naidoo-Harris, MPP for Halton, were in Mississauga to announce that the province has issued a request for proposals to design and build the highway. The project will widen 18 kilometres of highway, from the Credit River in Mississauga to Regional Road 25 in Milton. Widening the highway will relieve congestion, allow for more efficient transportation and flow of goods, and help accommodate continued population and employment growth in the region. Building new highways to get traffic moving is part of Ontario’s plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation. |
