Orthodox Easter Ontario Celebrations Highlight Faith, Renewal and Community
TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford is extending greetings to Orthodox Christian communities across Ontario and around the world as they celebrate Orthodox Easter, also known as Pascha.
In a statement released April 12, the Premier acknowledged the religious and cultural significance of the holiday, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is considered the most important feast in the Orthodox Christian faith.
“Today, Orthodox Christians in Ontario and around the world celebrate Easter, also known as Pascha, the most important feast in the Orthodox Christian faith,” Ford said.
Celebrating tradition and spiritual reflection
Orthodox Easter is marked by a series of traditions and observances, including late-night vigils, the decoration of red eggs and festive meals that break the fasting period of Great Lent.
“Orthodox Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the triumph of life over death. Worshippers will gather to attend vigils and take part in traditions, including decorating red eggs and sharing a meal to break the fast of Great Lent,” Ford said.
Across the Greater Toronto Area, home to a diverse Orthodox Christian population, churches and families are marking the occasion with religious services and community gatherings.

He concluded his message by offering well wishes to those observing the holiday.
“To everyone celebrating, I wish you a joyful and blessed Orthodox Easter!”
