Generals Fall Short in Season Opener Against Battalion

Sam Roberts scores on the power play, but Generals fall 4–2 to Battalion in North Bay season opener.

NORTH BAY — The Oshawa Generals opened their 2025/26 OHL season with a 4–2 road loss to the North Bay Battalion at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens. Despite flashes of strong play, the Generals couldn’t recover from North Bay’s early lead.


Game Recap

North Bay struck quickly, opening the scoring just 2:37 into the first period before adding a second midway through the frame. Oshawa answered late in the period when Vadim Smirnov capitalized on a setup from Colin Feeley and Lucas Teixeira, cutting the deficit to 2–1.

The second period was defined by special teams. The Battalion extended their lead on a power-play goal at 10:35, but the Generals responded just three minutes later. Sam Roberts converted on the man advantage, assisted by Brooks Rogowski and Onni Kalto, to pull Oshawa back within one.

The Generals pressed in the third, outshooting the Battalion 14–9, but North Bay goaltender Mike McIvor shut the door. An empty-net goal in the final minute sealed the 4–2 result for the home side.



Star Player

For Oshawa, Sam Roberts stood out with his second-period power-play marker, earning third star of the game honours. His energy and ability to spark offense gave the Generals life when they needed it most.

Goaltender Jaden Cholette made 29 saves in a solid effort between the pipes for Oshawa, while McIvor’s 26 saves earned him the win for North Bay.


What’s Next

The Generals will look to bounce back quickly when they return home to the Tribute Communities Centre on Sunday, September 21 to face the Kingston Frontenacs. Puck drop is at 6:05 p.m. as Oshawa aims to notch their first win of the new season in front of their home crowd.
