Pierre Mousseau Speaker Slam Toronto win secures spot in national finals
TORONTO — Vaughan-based entrepreneur and author Pierre Mousseau has won first place at the Breakthrough competition hosted by Speaker Slam, earning a spot in the organization’s national finals later this year.
The event, held March 31 at Lula Lounge, is part of Speaker Slam’s 10th anniversary season and features speakers from across Ontario and Quebec competing in one of North America’s largest inspirational speaking platforms.
Mousseau, President of High Energy Transport Inc. and author of From the Ashes, delivered a deeply personal presentation centred on grief, resilience, and the importance of living in the present moment.
A Story Rooted in Personal Loss
Mousseau’s talk reflected on the death of his 20-year-old son, Parker, in December 2020. Following that loss, he described a period of intense grief that brought him to a critical moment in his own life months later.
According to event details, Mousseau used his experience to frame a broader message about presence, perspective, and the value of time.
During his presentation, he asked the audience a direct question: whether they could make the same life-support decision he faced as a parent. He then spoke about the lessons he has taken from that experience.
After the event, Mousseau said a member of the audience approached him to share that his story had a meaningful personal impact.
Advancing to National Finals
With the win, Mousseau now advances to the Grand Slam: Inspirational Speaking Finals, scheduled for November 21 at CBC Glenn Gould Studio. The final competition will bring together top performers from across the Speaker Slam season to compete for the title of Inspirational Speaker of the Year and a prize package valued at $50,000.
The Breakthrough event marked the second of five qualifying rounds leading up to the finals.
Other Top Finishers
The competition also recognized other standout speakers:
- Sofranie Trencia, a former Tae Kwon-Do world champion from Montreal, placed second
- Duncan Brown, a first-time competitor from Toronto, placed third
Each finalist presented a personal story tied to overcoming adversity, reflecting the competition’s focus on authentic storytelling and lived experience.
