TORONTO ― Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day:
“Today, Ontario joins the province’s Jewish community to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the establishment of Israel as a free, independent and democratic state — and to celebrate our continued friendship with the people of Israel.
The Jewish community’s contributions to our province’s culture and shared prosperity make the province stronger. Our bonds with Israel grow every day — through family gatherings, our shared trade agreement, our exchange of art, ideas and religious observances. We value the deep connections between Israel and Ontario and we honour the resilience and perseverance of the Jewish community in our province and around the world.
I also call on everyone in Ontario to join together with Jewish friends, family and neighbours in standing up to antisemitism and hatred and to pray for the return of hostages taken on October 7, 2023, and for an end to the conflict.
To everyone celebrating this important day, I wish you a heartfelt Yom Ha’atzmaut Sameach.”
