TORONTO — Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark the beginning of Hanukkah:
“As the sun sets this evening, candles will be lit across Ontario and all around the world as Jewish communities begin their celebrations of Hanukkah.
Over the next eight days, the Jewish community will be celebrating #Hanukkah, the festival of lights.

Over the next eight nights, Jewish families and friends will come together to light the Hanukkah menorah, marking the 2nd Century rededication of their Temple, when a single day’s worth of lamp oil miraculously stayed lit over the course of eight days.
Those ancient celebrations inspired the eight-day Festival of Lights celebrated today, which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness.
On behalf of the province Ontario, I wish all who observe a very happy Hanukkah.
Chag Hanukkah Sameach!”
