Passover Ontario Premier Ford message emphasizes unity, tradition and inclusion

TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford has issued a statement marking the beginning of Passover, recognizing the significance of the holiday for Jewish communities across Ontario and around the world.

Passover, an eight-day observance, commemorates the story of the Exodus and is one of the most important periods in the Jewish calendar. Families gather around the Seder table to share traditions, reflect on themes of resilience and renew a sense of hope.

“As the sun sets this evening, the Jewish community in Ontario and around the world will gather to mark the beginning of Passover,” Ford said. “This eight-day celebration is one of the most sacred and meaningful times in the Jewish calendar.”

A Time for Reflection and Community

The premier highlighted the importance of coming together during Passover, noting the role of faith and shared tradition in strengthening communities.

“Passover is a time to come together in faith and look ahead with hope,” Ford said. “Around the Seder table, families will share the story of the Exodus, reflect on the importance of resilience and take part in symbolic traditions.”

Commitment to Religious Freedom

In his message, Ford also addressed the broader context of rising antisemitism globally, reaffirming Ontario’s commitment to protecting religious freedom and inclusion.

“At a time when antisemitism and discrimination are on the rise around the world, our government will always ensure Ontario is a province where everyone has the right to practice their faith freely, without fear or intimidation,” he said.

Celebrating Passover Across Ontario

Jewish communities throughout the province are marking Passover with gatherings, religious observances and community events that reflect the enduring cultural and spiritual importance of the holiday.

Ford concluded his message by extending well wishes to those celebrating.

“To everyone celebrating, I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and blessed Passover. Chag Pesach Sameach!”
