TORONTO ― Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark the beginning of Nowruz, the Persian New Year:
“Today, Persian communities here in Ontario and all over the globe will celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Nowruz means “new day” and its first day marks the arrival of spring. Each Nowruz signifies a renewal of hope and unity and refreshed optimism for the year ahead.
Throughout Nowruz, many families and friends will celebrate by gathering around the traditional Haft-Seen table to spend time and share food together, to exchange gifts and to give thanks for the blessings of the previous year.
I’m delighted to take this chance to celebrate Ontario’s vibrant Persian community and the many contributions its members make to our province. To everyone celebrating, I want to wish you all the very best for the year ahead.
