Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

The Prime Minister offered his condolences following the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He conveyed to The Prince of Wales that the thoughts of Canadians are with him, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and all members of the Royal Family during this difficult time.

The Prime Minister and The Prince of Wales discussed the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic in Canada and around the world, including in Commonwealth countries. They emphasized the importance of international cooperation in supporting more vulnerable countries and building back better. The Prime Minister and The Prince of Wales also exchanged views on the role the private sector can play to mobilize financing and best practices in support of more prosperous, resilient, and inclusive economies and societies.

The Prime Minister thanked The Prince of Wales for his long-standing leadership on sustainability issues. He stressed Canada’s commitment to continue promoting a greener and more equitable global economic recovery in the Commonwealth and in other international forums. The Prime Minister also underlined Canada’s efforts to find real solutions to help tackle the climate crisis and promote sustainable development, including through leadership on financing for development issues at the United Nations.

The Prince of Wales conveyed his best wishes to Canadians during these challenging times.
