Resumption of Storm Sewer Installation at Mount Pleasant Station

What Work is Taking Place?

In December 2018, crews began installation of a new storm sewer along the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.  Beginning March 8, storm sewer installation will resume.  The storm sewer will be installed using a hand-mining method whereby pipe is hydraulically pushed through the soil from the shafts at Taunton Road and Brownlow Avenue while soil is simultaneously removed.  Once the pipe installation is complete, connection work will be performed to connect the new storm sewer to the existing storm infrastructure.

This work will be completed in three stages on a 24-hour basis, Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks per stage.

Construction Sequence and Staging

Stage 1 – Taunton Road (24 hours)
Monday March 12 for approximately ten (10) days
Crews will begin installation of the storm sewer pipe from the Taunton Rd shaft, travelling westbound below-grade toward Mt. Pleasant Rd.

Stage 2 – Brownlow Avenue (24 hours)
Monday April 2 for approximately ten (10) days
Crews will begin installation of the storm sewer pipe from the Brownlow Ave shaft, travelling eastbound below-grade toward Mt. Pleasant Rd.

Stage 3 – Connection Work (7:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.)
Mid-April 2018
In early April crews will implement a new traffic stage at Mt. Pleasant Rd and Eglinton Ave E.  Connection work will be completed within the new work zone during permitted hours.
