At just 15 years old, Lia Redick is proving that composure, artistry, and consistency are just as powerful as difficulty and flash in elite gymnastics.
The Oakville, Ontario-born gymnast made headlines in June by capturing the gold medal on balance beam at the 2025 Pan American Championships in Panama. Despite being the first to compete in the beam final—a spot many gymnasts would rather avoid—Redick delivered a poised, precise routine that held up through the entire field, beating American stars Jayla Hang and Hezly Rivera.
“I like going first as I feel less pressure to do better than others,” Redick told International Gymnast Online. “I just focus on doing my best.”
Redick trains under coach Lena Yermolchuk at Oakville Gymnastics, alongside choreographer Irina Nechavski, who helps craft routines that highlight the young athlete’s elegance and attention to detail. Redick credits her clean execution and artistic finesse for her standout performances, saying that “cleanliness, execution and how I perform my skills are what helps me stand out as a gymnast.”
Her recent win builds on an impressive international résumé:
-
All-around gold at the 2024 Vera Caslavska Olympic Hopes Cup
-
Vault bronze at the 2024 DTB Pokal in Stuttgart
-
Top-6 finishes at Elite Canada and International Gymnix in early 2025
With her sights now set on the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta, Redick continues to improve across all four apparatuses. She’s part of a promising new wave of Canadian gymnasts helping shape the future of the national program ahead of LA 2028.
Beyond medals, Redick brings something just as important to Team Canada: joy.
“I bring a positive attitude and the fun side of gymnastics to the team,” she says. “At Pan Ams I traded t-shirts with girls from Peru and Costa Rica, and we posted the picture online.”
With a gold medal already around her neck and a contagious love for the sport, Lia Redick is a name we’ll be hearing a lot more in the years to come.
