Sangha Signs With Honey Badgers, Makes History as Team’s First South Asian Player

BRAMPTON – The Brampton Honey Badgers are adding more local firepower to their lineup with the signing of forward Jasman Sangha, marking a milestone for the team as its first-ever South Asian player.

Sangha, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound Brampton native, joins the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) squad for his rookie professional season after an impressive six-year collegiate career in the U.S., split between the NCAA and JUCO levels. Most recently, he suited up as a starter for the Canisius Golden Griffins, where he averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

“We are excited to welcome Jasman back home to Brampton,” said Honey Badgers GM and VP of Basketball Operations Jermaine Anderson. “I feel he is going to be a fan favourite as a Brampton native, and on the court, his size and strength will be a valuable asset.”

Sangha’s journey to the pro ranks included stops at California State University Northridge, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Garden City Community College, where he made headlines with a 22-point, 15-rebound double-double in his JUCO season debut. Over 108 collegiate games, he averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds, while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point range.

“Beginning my professional career in my hometown is something I could not have dreamt up,” said Sangha. “For Canadians like me, the CEBL is an amazing way to kickstart a career and I look forward to showing off what Brampton basketball is all about.”

Sangha joins fellow Brampton products David Muenkat and Yohann Sam on the roster, becoming the third hometown player on the squad and the ninth Canadian overall under contract. His signing follows the recent addition of Arkansas State star Taryn Todd.

The Honey Badgers open their 2025 campaign on May 18 in Montreal before visiting Ottawa on May 21. Brampton fans can catch the team’s return to the CAA Centre against the Scarborough Shooting Stars shortly after.
