Shop And Vax COVID-19 vaccination clinics continue operating in malls, shopping centres and pharmacies today and tomorrow

Shop And Vax COVID-19 vaccination clinics

Today, Mayor John Tory and Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York) joined Team Toronto health partners as the COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Stock Yards Village opened for the day. The clinic is one of more than 75 vaccination clinics held throughout the Shop And Vax campaign period, which began on Thursday, November 11 and continues through Sunday, November 14.

In his remarks, Mayor Tory thanked Team Toronto partners across the city who have worked throughout the pandemic to bring COVID-19 vaccines to where people shop, work and play. He also acknowledged the support of mall owners, pharmacies, businesses, schools and community organizations that regularly host clinics and work to promote and support their operation.

Team Toronto is working towards vaccinating 90 per cent of eligible Torontonians. To reach 90 per cent of people with one dose, only 57,000 people need to receive a first dose of vaccine – down from 63,000 at the start of November. To reach 90 per cent fully vaccinated, 150,000 people need to receive their second dose, down from 162,000 at the start of the month.

Vaccination clinics at Stock Yards Village, a RIO CAN shopping centre, have been running since September 9 on a Thursday to Saturday schedule. To date, 1,104 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered at this facility.

On Thursday, November 11, the first day of the latest Shop And Vax campaign, 653 vaccine doses were administered across these Toronto Public Health (TPH)-run mall and community clinic locations:
• Broadlands Community Centre
• Canoe Landing Community Centre
• Cloverdale Mall
• Lawrence Allen Centre
• Lester B. Pearson C.I.
• O’Connor Community Centre
• Oriole Community Centre
• Scarborough Town Centre
• Smithfield Middle School
• Stock Yards Village
• Toronto Community Housing
• Woodbine Mall
• Yonge Sheppard Centre
• York University

Clinics featured in the four-day vaccination push were selected by TPH as part of the Team Toronto Mobile Strategy data approach aimed to continue removing barriers and bringing vaccines to residents in areas and settings with low vaccination rates and to residents who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

Details on clinics operating today and tomorrow in malls are posted on the City of Toronto’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/?accordion=shop-and-vax-clinics.

A full list of all vaccination clinic locations operating in the city is available on the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics in Toronto website: https://sites.google.com/mobilevaccinationteams.com/torontovaccination/home.

Currently, 84.5 per cent of eligible Toronto residents are now fully vaccinated and 87.9 per cent have received at least their first dose.

Quotes:

“I am inspired every time I visit a local vaccine clinic. Team Toronto partners, location hosts and wide-reaching community support are outstanding. Great care goes into ensuring a positive, supportive experience for every resident who decides to get vaccinated. Like so many of our mall clinic partners, the Stock Yards Village clinic has been operating regularly for months. Thank you to the Team Toronto partners who make this and every clinic such a welcoming place, a critical factor in our ongoing work to achieve the goal of 90 per cent of eligible residents fully vaccinated.”
– Mayor John Tory

“The success of our immunization campaign is due to Team Toronto’s commitment to bringing vaccines directly to people. By holding pop-up clinics in malls and shopping centres – along with community centres, schools, and apartment buildings – we’re making sure people can quickly and easily get vaccinated. I am delighted to join Mayor Tory at the Stock Yards Village clinic today, to welcome residents and thank our health care professionals who are administering shots and keeping Torontonians safe”
– Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York), Chair of the Board of Health

“I am proud of the efforts we have taken in our ward to share accurate information about COVID-19 and provide opportunities to access vaccines and testing centres. Our efforts are paying off. We have noticed an increase in vaccine uptake, leading to better protection among residents, improved opportunities for businesses to reopen, and a reduction in negative health outcomes. After a difficult time of loss and disruption, we welcome these changes. I want to thank our community for stepping up to get vaccinated and our healthcare workers for their tireless work to keep our residents safe. As we continue to work together to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, I am happy to support the Shop And Vax campaign – and other initiatives like it – to highlight the importance of getting vaccinated and the many clinics available in Ward 5, York South-Weston.”
– Councillor Frances Nunziata (York South-Weston)
