BRAMPTON, ON — The Brampton Steelheads capped off a successful 2025 OHL Priority Selection weekend by adding eight new names to their prospect pool on Day 2 of the draft.

After selecting three players on Friday — including standout defenceman Peter Green at 14th overall — the Steelheads returned to the draft table Saturday to round out their 11-player class. Their first selection of the day came at 80th overall, where they drafted right winger Lachlan Larmand from the U16 Barrie Jr. Colts. Larmand tallied 54 points in 31 regular season games and added 11 points in the OMHA playoffs. Head Coach and GM James Richmond praised Larmand as “a strong skating, hardworking 200-foot forward with an above average scoring touch.”

The Steelheads stayed in Barrie with their next pick, selecting Quinn Patton in the seventh round (136th). Patton, a left winger, joins his older brother Troy Patton, a second-round selection by the Steelheads in 2024. Richmond called Quinn “a strong, hardworking forward” and commended his work ethic on every shift.

At 156th overall, Brampton turned to the blueline again, drafting Jatan Singh Sandhar, a 6-foot defenceman from the Oakville Rangers U16. Mississauga-born Sandhar was described by Steelheads scout Joely Stockl as “a mature defender” with a physical edge and puck-moving confidence.

The Steelheads used their remaining five picks across rounds 9 to 15 to draft a diverse group of players:

  • Jack Malandra (176th, LW, Ottawa Myers Automotive U16AAA): A north-south skater known for his pace and versatility.

  • David Blasiak (216th, LW, Chicago Reapers 15’s): A high-motor, 200-foot player with positional flexibility.

  • Aidan Witkowski (245th, LW, Toronto Marlboros U16AAA): A relentless forward who plays with “pace and bite.”

  • Bradley Whang (276th, C, Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres 15’s): A dynamic centre with a strong scoring touch and elite hockey IQ.

  • Finlay McLean (296th, LD, Ottawa Myers Automotive U16AAA): A gritty, competitive defenceman who “plays hard on the edge.”

Reflecting on the draft, Richmond stated, “Congratulations to the ‘09 Draft Class and welcome to the Brampton Steelheads! Our staff, headed by Mike Doyle and Rob Toffoli, did an excellent job preparing for this weekend. We believe we selected eleven players who could one day suit up for our club.”
