BRAMPTON – The Brampton Steelheads have completed a significant roster move, trading Vancouver Canucks prospect Gabriel Chiarot to the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for eight draft picks and the rights to Adam Valentini.
The deal delivers Brampton a substantial collection of future assets, including a mix of second- through tenth-round selections spread across multiple seasons. As part of the transaction, the Steelheads receive their own second-round pick in 2027, Kitchener’s second- and third-round picks in 2028, an additional third-round pick in 2029, fourth-round pick in 2028, fifth-round pick in 2027, eighth-round pick in 2029, and a tenth-round pick in 2026.
Chiarot departs after three seasons in Brampton
Chiarot, a Hamilton native, was originally selected by the Steelheads in the seventh round (136th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Over three seasons with the club, the right winger appeared in 137 games, recording 66 points on 39 goals and 27 assists.
In June 2025, Chiarot was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (175th overall) of the NHL Entry Draft. He later signed a three-year entry-level contract with the organization in September. During the current OHL season, Chiarot also served as an assistant captain for the Steelheads.

Management reflects on difficult decision
Steelheads head coach and general manager James Richmond acknowledged the significance of the move following the announcement.
“We want to thank Gabe and his family for being great Steelheads over his years with us. He’s been a good teammate and easy to coach. Gabe’s work ethic and belief in the process has really paid off for him,” Richmond said. “This is a tough decision for our hockey club to make but we believe it is the right one for both Gabe and the hockey club. We want to wish Cherry the very best moving forward and hope to see him in the NHL one day.”
Looking ahead
The trade signals a strategic shift for Brampton as the organization adds draft capital to support future roster construction while allowing Chiarot to continue his development with Kitchener. The Steelheads continue their OHL season at the CAA Centre, where they are now playing their second season since relocating from Mississauga.
