Jakub Fibigr moved to Windsor as Brampton Steelheads add Carter Hicks and draft picks

Brampton, Ontario – The Brampton Steelheads have completed a major roster move, trading defenceman Jakub Fibigr to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for defenceman Carter Hicks and three Ontario Hockey League draft picks.

Under the terms of the deal, Brampton acquires Hicks, along with a second-round pick in 2026, a third-round pick in 2029, and a sixth-round pick in 2029.

Fibigr departs after three impactful seasons

Fibigr was selected by the Steelheads in the first round (16th overall) of the 2023 CHL Import Draft and quickly became a cornerstone of the club’s blue line. Over three seasons in Brampton, the Uničov, Czechia native appeared in 146 regular-season games, recording 100 points on 18 goals and 82 assists, and added six assists in 11 playoff games.

During the current season, Fibigr served as part of the Steelheads’ leadership group, wearing an “A” as an assistant captain.

His development in Brampton also earned him NHL recognition. Fibigr was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the seventh round (202nd overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. Internationally, he has represented Czechia twice at the IIHF World Junior Championship, winning a bronze medal in 2025 and a silver medal in 2026, serving as an assistant captain during the latter tournament.

Steelheads add young defenceman and future assets

In return, Brampton welcomes Carter Hicks, a 6-foot-1 defenceman from London, Ontario. Hicks was selected by Windsor in the second round (24th overall) of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection and has appeared in 88 games over two seasons, recording 18 points with six goals and 12 assists.

The additional draft picks provide Brampton with further flexibility as the organization continues to shape its roster and pipeline.

Management reflects on Fibigr’s legacy

Steelheads head coach and general manager James Richmond acknowledged Fibigr’s impact following the announcement.

“We would like to thank Jakub and his family for taking the leap of faith coming to a new country at the age of 17,” Richmond said. “Jakub has been a great Steelhead both on and off the ice. He will always be a Steelhead.”

The Steelheads continue their OHL schedule at the CAA Centre as the club balances honoring key contributors with building for the future.
