Von Richter dealt for three draft picks
In the first transaction, Brampton sent defenceman Parker Von Richter to Barrie in exchange for a second-round pick in 2027 (Barrie), a third-round pick in 2027 (Windsor), and a third-round pick in 2029 (Barrie).
Von Richter, a Mississauga native, was selected by the Steelheads in the third round (51st overall) of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. Over four seasons with the club, he appeared in 231 regular-season games, recording 95 points on 17 goals and 78 assists, along with 17 playoff appearances. During the current season, Von Richter was part of the Steelheads’ leadership group, wearing an “A” as an assistant captain.
Captain Mason Zebeski moved in second deal
In a separate trade, Brampton exchanged forward Mason Zebeski to the Colts in return for Sam Black and four draft selections: a second-round pick in 2029 (Barrie), a fourth-round pick in 2027 (Brantford), a fifth-round pick in 2029 (Barrie), and a sixth-round pick in 2026 (Barrie).
Zebeski, an Oakville native, was drafted by the Steelheads in the eleventh round (208th overall) of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. Over four seasons, he played 217 regular-season games, totaling 106 points with 56 goals and 50 assists, and added seven points in 17 playoff games. He was named team captain in September, serving as a key leader both on and off the ice.

Steelheads add young forward Sam Black
As part of the Zebeski trade, Brampton acquires Sam Black, a 6-foot-1 winger from Fergus, Ontario. Black was selected in the fourth round (73rd overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Draft and has appeared in 24 games over two seasons with Barrie. He joins the Steelheads as a developing forward who will look to establish a larger role with his new club.
Management reflects on departures
Steelheads head coach and general manager James Richmond acknowledged the impact both departing players had on the organization.
“Mason and Parker will be Steelheads forever,” Richmond said. “We are very thankful for what they have both brought to the team over the last four plus years. Their families have been wonderful. We really can’t say enough about the two of them. We want to wish the very best with their journeys, but we also know they will always have a Steelheads home to come back to.”
The moves mark a significant shift for Brampton as the club balances honouring long-serving players with positioning itself for future roster building through added draft capital.
