TORONTO — Summer McIntosh has once again made waves—this time rewriting swimming history books at the 2025 Canadian Olympic Trials. The 18-year-old Toronto phenom delivered one of the most dominant performances in the sport’s recent memory, setting not one, not two, but three world records in a single meet.

On June 8 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, McIntosh stunned the crowd and the international swimming community by breaking the women’s 400 m freestyle world record with a time of 3:54.18, edging past the previous mark set by Australia’s Ariarne Titmus.

But she wasn’t done.

Over the course of the meet, she also established new world records in the 200 m individual medley (2:05.70) and the 400 m individual medley (4:23.65)—a feat only matched by swimming legends like Michael Phelps.

A Toronto-Born Titan

Born and raised in Toronto, McIntosh has been pegged as Canada’s swimming prodigy since making her Olympic debut at just 14. Now 18, she has surpassed even the loftiest expectations, becoming a generational talent and global ambassador for Canadian excellence in sport.

Olympic Momentum

With the Paris 2024 Olympics behind her, McIntosh is clearly building on that momentum heading into the 2025 World Aquatics Championships and beyond. She already holds multiple Canadian and Olympic titles, but this latest showing firmly cements her as a once-in-a-lifetime talent.

McIntosh’s incredible discipline, versatility across strokes, and relentless pursuit of excellence have captured the attention of fans, coaches, and young swimmers across the country.
