Supreme Court Rules Against Trump

July 10, 2020 | By Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

In recent times the Supreme Court has been handing down decisions which have angered president Trump in the USA. For example: the DACA ruling. Trump seem to have expected the 9 Justices to do his bidding. Alas! He was wrong, they have taken an Oath to be Fair, to Interpret, and Uphold the Spirit, if not the Letter of the American Constitution. Also not to be swayed by external issues, personal views, prejudices and political affiliation.

The Supreme Court by a 7:2 majority has ruled that:

1) No one is above the law

2) Trump must hand over his tax returns.

3) The Democrats/Congress may not see these returns.

“It is important that the Court reaffirmed the fact that no one of us is above the law.” Asserts the Court.

Chief Justice Roberts, a Bush appointee, has ruled inter alia that:

“Our founding fathers did not intend for anyone to be above the law”.

Ironically, Trump’s two appointees Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch have joined the majority in ruling against him. These Justices are demonstrating their independence.

Trump has tweeted that:

This is a witch hunt, I am the victim of a political witch hunt”

He has gone to twitter to repeatedly vent his feelings of disgust.

Democratic chair Nancy Pelosi said inter alia that:

“The fact that Trump appointees on the Supreme Court have ruled against him, gives us hope.” declared a jubilant yet subdued response from Pelosi.

There has been a long running stand off by opponents of Donald J. Trump, the candidate trying to put their hands on his tax returns. Former President Richard Nixon, who resigned in disgrace, also refused to release his tax returns. Lawyers for Donald Trump have planted the idea in his head that “he is immune from prosecution as president”. The highest court of the land has rubbished this claim. The US President has never failed to boast of his perceived “immunity.”

Now that the Court has ruled, what next for The Donald and his closely guarded tax returns? Only time will tell. Will Trump obey the Court’s Ruling?
