Today, Mayor John Tory announced the launch of Shop And Vax 2.0 to highlight COVID-19 vaccine clinics at local shopping centres and pharmacies on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

Shop And Vax 2.0 expands on the first Shop And Vax vaccination push, held in late September, by featuring pop-up clinics in local plazas and malls. The campaign – which highlights 22 clinics in malls and plazas across the city – is part of Team Toronto’s continued efforts to make COVID-19 vaccines as accessible as possible and to bring vaccines to where residents live, work and play.

Shop And Vax 2.0 locations were selected by Toronto Public Health as part of the Team Toronto Mobile Strategy data approach to continue to remove barriers and bring vaccines to residents in areas and settings that have low vaccination coverage and to residents who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19. Locations were also chosen to facilitate easy access in places that are part of Torontonians’ everyday lives. The clinics will offer first and second COVID-19 vaccine doses and many do not require appointments. A full list of clinic locations and hours can be found on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/?accordion=shopandvax2-clinics.

Last week, 4,289 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered through mobile, pop-up and City of Toronto immunization clinics as part of the Team Toronto’s VaxGiving vaccination campaign. The highest single-day total at a mobile clinic was on Friday, October 8 at Jane Subway Station, where 125 doses were administered.

More than 1,000 vaccine doses were administered at five mall vaccination clinics during the first Shop and Vax campaign last month.

The Shop and Vax 2.0 campaign is now focused on continuing Team Toronto’s success helping residents get vaccinated. More than 82 per cent of eligible Toronto residents are now fully vaccinated and 86.6 per cent of residents have at least their first dose.

In addition to the Shop And Vax 2.0 clinics happening this weekend, mobile clinics are in operation across the city. A list of public mobile clinic opportunities is online: https://sites.google.com/mobilevaccinationteams.com/torontovaccination/home.

Quotes:

“We are working to make it as easy as possible for people to get vaccinated. Shop And Vax 2.0 helps build on the success we’ve had bringing vaccines directly to people. We know that the vast majority of Toronto residents are now vaccinated but we are determined to help people get vaccinated so they have the best protection possible against COVID-19 and we protect our progress in reopening our city. We’re grateful to our shopping centre partners and pleased to welcome more pharmacies for this campaign, to ensure those who still need their first and second vaccines can get them conveniently.”
– Mayor John Tory

“We are committed to doing everything we can to make vaccination as accessible as possible. That means bringing vaccine clinics directly to people, through their neighbourhoods, plazas, and shopping centres. Building on the success of our first Shop and Vax push, this weekend Torontonians will be able quickly and easily get their first or second dose at participating malls and pharmacy locations, helping to protect themselves and our city.”
– Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York), Chair of the Board of Health

“This weekend’s Shop And Vax 2.0 is another example of our Team Toronto partners hard work to bring vaccine to residents so everyone in our city can enjoy the protection and peace of mind that being fully vaccinated provides. Thank you to all residents who are rolling up their sleeves and to our Team Toronto partners who continue to work tirelessly to protect our city and are helping to end this pandemic.”
– Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health
