Today marks the last day of #VaxInTheSix – six COVID-19 vaccine clinics hosted at TTC subway stations across the city

Today marks the last day of #VaxInTheSix

Residents who have yet to get their first or second dose of the vaccine are encouraged to get their dose at one of six TTC subway station clinics held today. #VaxInTheSix began on Thursday, October 21, and continues until today from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Bathurst, Finch West, Islington, Kennedy, St. Clair West and Union stations.

Today, Mayor John Tory was joined by Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York) and TTC CEO Rick Leary at Bathurst subway station to mark the last day of the #VaxInTheSix campaign and to encourage people to get their first and second doses.

The campaign is a Team Toronto partnership between Toronto Public Health (TPH), the TTC, Humber River Hospital, Michael Garron Hospital and East Toronto Health Partners and the City of Toronto.

The clinics, which offer first and second doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines on a walk-in basis, were selected by TPH as part of the Team Toronto Mobile Strategy data approach aimed to continue removing barriers and bringing vaccines to residents in areas and settings with low vaccination rates and to residents who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

On the first day of #VaxInTheSix, Team Toronto vaccination partners administered 225 doses of COVID-19 vaccine across the city at the six subway clinics. Below is a breakdown of doses by subway station:
•       Bathurst – 38 doses
•       Finch West – 46 doses
•       Islington – 33 doses
•       Kennedy – 52 doses
•       St. Clair West – 35 doses
•       Union   – 21 doses

Progress continues to be made, clinic by clinic and dose by dose, to reach 90 per cent of eligible Torontonians being fully vaccinated. The City announced this week that 83 per cent of residents 12 and older are now fully vaccinated and 87.2 per cent of residents have received one vaccine dose.

Quotes:

“We know that in order to meet our goal of 90% of residents vaccinated, we need to bring the vaccine closer to people. #VaxInTheSix is our latest campaign targeted at residents who have yet to get their first or second dose and are looking for an easy way to access the vaccine. By hosting these six clinics at stations across the city we are not only targeting areas in our city with lower vaccine uptake but making it easy for anyone walking by to get their shot. The COVID-19 vaccine is our way out of this pandemic, it will help protect us from the virus and stop the spread. I encourage everyone to get their first and second doses and I thank those who have done the right thing and got their vaccine already.”
– Mayor John Tory

“Reach everyone, everywhere: that’s our commitment when it comes to ensuring access to vaccines. By working with the TTC and our Team Toronto partners, we’re making pop-up vaccine clinics a quick and convenient part of the daily commute. With 83 per cent of Torontonians fully vaccinated, we’re making good progress towards our next goal of 90 per cent — and we’ll keep working around the clock to get there.”
– Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York), Chair of the Toronto Board of Health

“We’re committed to playing our part in helping everyone in the GTA get their shot, so we can bring an end to this pandemic. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to administer thousands of doses at clinics hosted at our stations with the help of our hospital, public health and city partners. We will continue to work together to run these clinics for as long as it takes, so that everyone has the opportunity to get vaccinated.”
– Rick Leary, CEO, TTC
