Starting today, candidates and third party advertisers for Toronto’s 2022 municipal election can book an appointment to file their nomination or registration through Toronto Election’s new appointment booking system.
The first day to file a nomination for the October 24 municipal election is May 2. From May 2 to August 19, Toronto Elections will receive nominations for the offices of:
• Mayor
• Councillor
• Trustee for the Toronto District School Board
• Trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board
• Trustee for the Conseil scolaire Viamonde
• Trustee for the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.
Candidates and third party advertisers are strongly encouraged to book an appointment to ensure quick service, minimize wait times and reduce crowding. Information about how to book an appointment is available on the Toronto Elections candidate webpage: www.toronto.ca/elections/candi

Nominations can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections Office, now in a new location on the first floor of City Hall, 100 Queen St W. – just inside the main entrance. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from May 2 to August 18 (excluding statutory holidays) and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 19.
To run for the office of Mayor, Councillor or School Board Trustee, candidates must:
• File a nomination paper with original signature
• Provide proof of qualifying address within the city of Toronto or the school board jurisdiction
• Pay the appropriate nomination filing fee
• If running for the office of Mayor or Councillor, provide at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Toronto voters with original signatures.
Until a nomination paper is filed, a person cannot raise or spend any money on their campaign.

Third party advertiser registration
Between May 2 and October 21, individuals, corporations and trade unions who plan to spend money to promote, support or oppose a candidate for Toronto’s 2022 municipal election must register as a third party advertiser.
Starting today, people are strongly encouraged to use the new appointment booking system to schedule a time to register as a third party advertiser. The Notice of Registration can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections Office City Hall location. Registrations can be filed Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from May 2 to October 21 (excluding statutory holidays).
The City Clerk must certify the registration before a third party advertiser can spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising. Registered third party advertisers must identify themselves on advertisements and comply with requirements under the Municipal Elections Act.
