London, United Kingdom – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau participated in the Securing Our Future Summit in London, United Kingdom, reinforcing Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine as the country continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Hosted by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the summit brought together Euro-Atlantic and NATO leaders to promote unity, strengthen collective security, and reaffirm international commitments to Ukraine. Trudeau announced new sanctions targeting 10 individuals and 21 entities, including paramilitary organizations and their leaders, aimed at countering Russia’s reliance on third-party organizations to advance its military and political objectives. To date, Canada has imposed sanctions on over 3,000 individuals and entities complicit in Russia’s aggression.
During discussions with global leaders, Trudeau emphasized the urgent need for continued, coordinated support for Ukraine. Summit participants agreed that sustainable peace in Europe cannot be achieved without ensuring Ukraine’s security and that any resolution to the conflict must involve Ukraine directly in negotiations. The leaders also underscored the importance of security guarantees in any potential peace agreement.

At a plenary session, Trudeau highlighted Canada’s extensive support for Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. This support includes nearly $20 billion in military, humanitarian, and financial assistance. Canada has provided armored vehicles and drone technology, alongside economic aid to help Ukraine rebuild.
The Prime Minister also recognized the ongoing efforts of the Canadian Armed Forces under Operation UNIFIER, which has trained over 44,000 Ukrainian troops since 2015. Canadian forces continue to assist in the United Kingdom and Poland, providing essential military training to Ukrainian personnel.
Trudeau stressed the importance of holding Russia accountable for violations of international law, including war crimes and the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. He reiterated Canada’s dedication to working with its allies to increase economic pressure on Russia and ensure accountability for its actions.
As Canada takes on the G7 presidency this year, Trudeau reaffirmed that strengthening security and stability in Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic region remains a top priority. He pledged that Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and work closely with allies to provide the necessary military, economic, and humanitarian support to counter Russian aggression.
Canada’s stance remains clear: Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty is a fight for democracy and freedom worldwide. Trudeau’s participation in the summit signals Canada’s ongoing commitment to ensuring Ukraine can defend itself, rebuild, and secure a lasting peace.
