All roads led to Montreal this week as 18-year-old Victoria Mboko captured her first WTA Tour title—on home soil no less—by defeating Naomi Osaka in an electrifying final. The Canadian took the match 2–6, 6–4, 6–1, completing her fairy-tale run.

A Journey for the Ages

Entering the tournament ranked No. 85, Mboko became the second-lowest ranked woman ever to win a WTA 1000 title. Along the way she stunned four Grand Slam champions: Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and ex‑No. 1 Osaka—mirroring a feat not seen since Serena Williams in 1999.

Despite battling a swollen wrist suffered in the semifinals, Mboko powered through. She landed multiple winners and battled back from a first-set deficit to seal the title in just over two hours. Her final point? A moment of pure emotional release as she celebrated with the crowd and her team courtside.

A Career Catapulted

With this win, Mboko journeys over 300 ranking spots, rising to world No. 24 and becoming Canada’s No. 1. Her ascent from outside the top 300 to the top 25 in the span of a year is among the fastest rises the sport has seen.
