TORONTO – On Saturday, August 2, at approximately 10:34 p.m. Toronto Police were called to the area of John Street and Adelaide Street West following reports of gunfire. Officers located Jeshua Gabriel Buchoon, 36, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, August 6.

Police initially arrested Mitch Rambali, 26, and Steve Ganesh, 22, at the scene. Rambali has since been charged with second-degree murder, while Ganesh faces multiple firearm-related charges.

This marks Toronto’s 24th homicide of 2025.

On Tuesday, August 12, around 2:30 p.m., Toronto Police responded to a stabbing near Woodbine Avenue and O’Connor Drive in East York. The victim, Dwight Langille, 34, was found with serious injuries and pronounced deceased shortly after.

A 17-year-old male, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested on scene and charged with second-degree murder.

This incident represents the city’s 25th homicide of the year.

Community Impact and Concern

Both homicides occurred in broad public spaces—one in a bustling entertainment hub, the other in a quiet residential neighbourhood. The randomness of location and time has stirred fresh concern across the city.

  • Gun violence and youth crime remain central issues.

  • Victims aged 34 and 36 reflect the tragic loss of life at relatively young ages.

  • Arrests in both cases show police action—but prevention remains the bigger challenge.
