The nomination period opens on Wednesday, March 6 at 3 p.m. for those interested in becoming a candidate and running in the by-election for Mayor of Mississauga. Nominations will be accepted until April 26, 2024 at 2 p.m.
To qualify as a candidate you must be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old
- A resident of Mississauga or the owner or tenant of property in Mississauga or the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the city
- Not be prohibited under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law
How to register
The following steps must be taken if you are interested in becoming a candidate and running for Mayor of Mississauga:
- Complete the nomination package.
- Book an appointment to meet in-person with an Election Official to file your completed package. The Election Official will validate your identification documents and ensure your nomination package is complete and meets all requirements.
- Pay a nomination fee of $200. This payment is made once your nomination package and identification has been verified by an Election Official.
Join the candidate information session
A free candidate information session is being held on Tuesday, March 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. for those interested or just considering running for Mayor. You can choose to attend in-person at Mississauga City Hall in the Council Chambers or watch the livestream.
