Burlington's Sound of Music Festival and BPAC Team Up for Spectacular Celebration of the Arts

Burlington’s iconic Sound of Music Festival (SOMF) is gearing up for its most spectacular celebration yet, as it joins forces with The Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) for an unforgettable weekend of music, arts, and community spirit.

What began as a modest marching band parade in 1980 has blossomed into Canada’s largest free music festival, captivating audiences with its diverse lineup of over 50 acts spanning various genres. This year, from June 13th to June 16th, SOMF promises an electrifying array of performances, including emerging talents, local favorites, and chart-topping sensations.

The excitement is palpable as BPAC steps in as the Title Sponsor for SOMF, marking a significant milestone in the festival’s history. This strategic partnership underscores both organizations’ shared commitment to celebrating the performing arts and enriching Burlington’s cultural landscape.

Steve Cussons, Chair of the SOMF Board, expresses his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting BPAC’s invaluable contributions. He notes, “We are absolutely delighted to welcome BPAC as our title sponsor for this year’s event. Their expertise, passion, and support ensure that this year’s festival will be nothing short of spectacular.”

BPAC’s Executive Director, Tammy Fox, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the lineup’s diversity and inclusivity. “This year’s lineup reflects SOMF and BPAC’s mutual commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,” says Fox. “We are incredibly excited to present this diverse group of amazingly talented and entertaining artists.”

Beyond the mainstage performances, SOMF offers a plethora of events for all ages, including the iconic Grande Festival Parade, Streetfest, Family Zone, and the Midway in Spencer Smith Park. The festival’s inclusive approach includes low sensory times and free shuttle services to ensure everyone can partake in the festivities.

In the lead-up to the festival, BPAC hosts the Battle of the Bands, showcasing local talent and providing winners with the opportunity to perform on the main stage. This event underscores the community’s support for regional artists and its passion for nurturing homegrown talent.

As preparations for SOMF reach a crescendo, organizers express their gratitude to volunteers, sponsors, and governmental support for their unwavering dedication. With their collective efforts, SOMF and BPAC are poised to deliver a weekend filled with music, arts, and camaraderie, reaffirming Burlington’s status as a hub of cultural excellence.

As the countdown to June begins, Burlington residents can anticipate an unforgettable weekend of festivities, where neighbors, friends, and strangers alike come together to revel in the timeless joys of live performing arts.
