City of Mississauga announces Director of Internal Audit

The City of Mississauga is pleased to announce Amy Truong as the City’s Director of Internal Audit effective October, 16, 2023.

“I am pleased that Amy will be taking on the Director of Internal Audit position permanently. She has been acting in the role since June, and has competently demonstrated her ability to lead the team and deliver on operational needs regarding organizational governance, internal control and effective risk management,” said Shari Lichterman, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.

Reporting to the City Manager, Truong will oversee independent, objective consultations and reviews designed to add value and improve City operations as well as provide objective reporting on risk and control management to the City’s Internal Audit Committee. The City’s Internal Audit team is governed by the Standards and code of ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and is audited by an external reviewer at least every five years through an External Quality Assurance process which certifies the team is conforming and adhering to the IIA’s code and Standards.

“I’m very pleased to permanently take on the responsibility of this important position at the City of Mississauga,” said Truong. “I look forward to continuing to work with the professional and competent Internal Audit team to add value and continuously improve the City’s operations to help improve its effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.”

Truong has been with Mississauga’s Internal Audit Team for almost a decade most recently as the Acting Director and prior to that as a Senior Internal Auditor for four years and an Internal Auditor for five years. Prior to her time at the City, Truong was a Regional Senior Internal Auditor with the Peel District School Board where she developed a risk-based audit tool to facilitate the assessment of six school boards, prepared and presented risk assessments and presented findings to the Audit Committee.

Truong has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and holds a COSO Enterprise Risk Management Certificate. She is also a Certified Internal Auditor through the Institute of Internal Auditors, a Chartered Professional Accountant through the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and a Certified Management Accountant through the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario.
