City of Toronto launches 2022 Clean Toronto Together spring cleanup campaign

Today, Mayor John Tory announced plans for the City of Toronto’s 2022 Clean Toronto Together campaign and encouraged residents, schools, businesses and community groups to take part in the annual spring cleanup from Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24.

On Friday, April 22, Toronto schools and businesses can participate by cleaning around their properties. On Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, residents are encouraged to host community cleanups to remove litter from public spaces such as parks, ravines, laneways and beaches in their neighbourhoods.

Participants are asked to register their cleanups online at www.livegreentoronto.ca. Registration helps the City to arrange special litter pickups, avoid duplicate cleanups and measure results. The deadline to register is Friday, April 15.

More information is available on the Clean Toronto Together webpage: www.toronto.ca/cleantorontotogether.ca.

Now in its 17th year, Clean Toronto Together is Canada’s largest municipal spring cleanup program. Over a four-week period prior to the community cleanups in April, the City deploys more than 250 pieces of equipment, including litter vacuums, sweepers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, sidewalk sweepers and power washers, to remove dirt, debris and graffiti from streets, parks and watercourses.

Some of the City’s spring cleanup activities include:
•       Illegal dumping cleanup
•       Boulevard and laneway cleaning
•       Litter and debris removal in parks
•       Fence-line litter clearing
•       Street sweeping to clean up dirt and debris from Toronto’s streets

The public can do their part to help keep Toronto clean and safe by properly disposing of items, including masks and disposable gloves, in the available street and park bins and not littering items on the ground. The public can also report litter hot spots or overflowing bins to 311 at www.toronto.ca/311 or by calling 3-1-1.

Quotes:

“Our annual Clean Toronto Together effort is a great example of the power of community and it shows what we can accomplish when everyone pitches in. After a two year hiatus we are ready to welcome it back and to see all that we can do to help clean up and protect our city, its parks, trails, ravines and sidewalks. I encourage all Torontonians to participate in our 2022 spring cleanup and to do their part every day of the year by not littering.”
