Five creative March Break ideas for all ages

You’ve probably spent the last four months cooped up indoors and the last thing you want to do is stay in for March Break. Truth is, you do not need to travel far to have fun this Spring Break. Whether you’re a big group or just a few people, here are my top five things to do this March break.

  1. Breathe fresh air. Although many travelers head to white sands or beach parties during Spring Break, why not get away from the bustling crowds and explore a quiet national park instead? Plan a day trip and hike in nature or enjoy a walk or bike ride at your closest walking trail. If you’re feeling adventurous (and near Quebec City), spend a night in an ice hotel. March Break is a great time for enjoying the great outdoors while exploring Canada’s natural beauty – and creativity.
  2. City art walks. Sounds surreal, but it’s true: there’s free art in pretty much every large and medium city in Canada and even most if not all Main Streets. Why not enjoy a night of strolling and discovering the peaceful art scene in your closest picturesque community . Enjoy galleries, studios, sculptures, paintings and other pieces of art while strolling along your city.
  3. Lace the skate. Check out the rinks and lace up your skates for an hour of ice skating. Ice skating is fun for everyone and a great way to squeeze in a little exercise . And the fun never ends on the ice. There’s always a sweet treat or warm cup afterwards. To make your friends salivate and ratchet up the excitement, take them to your local ice cream shop, like Baskin-Robbins, where the ice cream alchemists have concocted more than 1,300 flavors – at least X of which are in store for enjoyment. Be sure to try the brand’s new delicious ice cream flavour, Irish Cream Crunch – its Flavour of the Month for March
  4. Watch movies. If you prefer to overlook the outdoors, consider what’s playing at the movie theatre. March is a big month for new family-friendly releases such as A and B. This could be the ultimate chance to go in, grab some buttery popcorn, gummy bears and drink some fizzy soda. However, it’s also okay if you wish to stay home. Make some popcorn, grab the blankets and enjoy a family movie night.
  5. Try a new sport. Take some time to learn a new sport. These days, you’d be surprised how many people have never tried skiing or snowshoeing. There’s also a movement to play winter tennis or classic tobogganing. There’s certainly no shortage of snow.

No matter what you do, consider carrying a book with you or keeping one by your bed or favourite sofa. After all, some people do call it reading week.
