OTTAWA, July 1, 2017 /CNW/ – Today, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the insignia of Companion of the Order of Canada to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, during a special presentation at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa, Ontario. This ceremony was held as part of the 2017 Royal Tour.
The Order of Canada citation is as follows:

Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada
Using passion and intellect to draw attention to important social issues, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to public service for over 40 years. Beginning with The Prince’s Trust, founded in 1976, his charitable endeavours have transformed lives and built sustainable communities globally, notably in Canada through The Prince’s Charities Canada. Declaring a lifelong affinity for Canada, he has visited every province and territory over the course of his official visits. His commitment to the long-term well-being of Canadian citizens is seen through his philanthropy, his support for Indigenous causes, his patronage of many arts and heritage organizations, and his ongoing support for the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Created in 1967, on the occasion of Canada’s centennial year, the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Close to 7 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
