Ontario Recognizes Outstanding Volunteers

June Callwood Award celebrates individuals and groups from across the province

TORONTO – The Ontario government is recognizing the exceptional contributions of 15 individuals and eight volunteer organizations through the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. This year’s award recipients include individuals who give their time to help people with developmental disabilities, support those requiring hospice care, and mentor leaders of the future.

“The past year has been challenging for us all and it’s impressive to see how volunteers and organizations stepped up to support their neighbours and communities,” said Parm Gill, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. “On behalf of all Ontarians, I thank our June Callwood award recipients for their kindness, compassion, and selfless commitment to helping others and for making our province such a great place to live.”

Journalist, author and Order of Ontario appointee, June Callwood was one of Canada’s most well-known social activists who founded or co-founded more than 50 Canadian social action organizations. The award bearing her name recognizes the leadership, innovation and creativity of individual volunteers, volunteer administrators and volunteer organizations who support communities across Ontario. There are two award categories – the Outstanding Volunteer Award and the Excellence in Volunteer Management Award.

Ontarians are also encouraged to nominate outstanding volunteers in their local community for 2022. The deadline for 2022 June Callwood Award nominations is February 18.
