Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah:
“As the sun sets this evening, Jewish communities in Ontario and all over the world will begin their celebrations for Rosh Hashanah.
At sunset this evening, Ontario’s Jewish community will begin celebrating #RoshHashanah. As you gather with loved ones, I would like to wish everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.
Shana Tova!

Rosh Hashanah is the first of the High Holy Days in the Hebrew calendar and marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year. For many families, Rosh Hashanah means observing wonderful traditions like eating honey-dipped apples in hopes of a sweet year to come, and to share meals and prayers with loved ones.
It also means a time to reflect on what lessons can be taken from the past year, to look forward to a fresh start and all the ways we can make the world a better place in the days ahead.
To all those who celebrate, I wish you a new year filled with peace, prosperity, and optimism for all the blessings in store. Shana Tova!”
